Following their impressive top three European Championship finish in their very first year on the all new Gulf Oil – Grand Prix Originals Top Fuel Bike, the team elected to compete in the British season finale, the ACU / UK Finals at Santa Pod, England.
Following the problems experienced by many racers at the venue during the recent European Finals event due to the tricky track surface resulting from track repairs the team did not anticipate improving on their recent form. Despite heading the championship chase going into the final round of the 2011 European Top Fuel Bike Championship the Gulf Oil – Grand Prix Originals Top Fuel Bike team knew that their slender lead was probably not enough to ensure their sixth title.
That proved indeed to be the case when the teams were presented with a tricky track surface following hasty track repairs on the start area at the UK’s Santa Pod raceway just prior to the event. The Gulf Oil – Grand Prix Originals Top Fuel Bike team embarked on the taxing back to back weekend events of the Sunoco Drag Challenge in Norway and NitrOlympX in Germany with determination to put the first round redlight in Finland behind them and regain momentum in their championship chase.

The team arrived in Oslo to find a country still numb with shock at the terrible events in this very city where 77 people lost their lives less than two weeks before. In a strangely peaceful moment at the racetrack next to the main Oslo Airport runway a minutes silence was held in remembrance of those who tragically lost their lives.
